Social Life, Cultural Groups and EventsThe University’s students are actively participating in the social life of Mytilini. Their participation contributes not only to the development and revitalization of local society but also to the development of the students' own identity, as they get to know the local culture of the island and its people. The activities of the students are organized by several cultural groups and the Student Unions of the Departments, which are interested in sports, dance, music, theatre, cinema, photography, radio, chess, etc. One of the most important cultural activities is the "Cultural Week" of the University, taking place on a different island every year over five days, during which all the student cultural groups get together and familiarize, talk about common concerns and exchange views. Two more initiatives aiming at greater communication between students from different islands and the development of productive debates, are the students’ e-magazine, «contrabado» (http://www.aegean.gr/periodiko/) and the MYaegean community (http://my.aegean.gr/web/).
